Nguyen's Injectable Piezoelectric Gel Could Treat Osteoarthritis without Surgery

A team from the College of Engineering is developing an injectable hydrogel that could stimulate cartilage regeneration in large animal models. The work was recently supported by a $2.3M grant from the NIH and NIH/NIBIB. The researchers dedicated to this are fellow Gang Ge, Associate Professor Thanh Nguyen, Ph.D. candidate I'jaaz Muhamaad, postdoctoral fellow Sumanta Karan, and Ph.D. candidate Achal Duhoon.

Polanco '22 (ENG) Returns to the College of Engineering as an Impact Fellow

Could Newly Designed Microgrids be the Way Back to the Moon?

Ali Bazzi, Madonna Professor of Power Engineering in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UConn, is the local PI for the Purdue-led research project. Bazzi, along with three other engineering professors, Ashwin Dani, Song Han, and Jiong Tang, are leading the charge, researching power systems, robotics, communications, and structural health monitoring, respectively.

Technology Entrepreneurship: Bringing New Tech to Market is a Gas

Laron Burrows, a Ph.D. student in Chemical Engineering at UConn’s College of Engineering (CoE), has been selected as an Activate Fellow, the first UConn student chosen for this prestigious fellowship. The fellowship will support Burrows’ work advancing the technology he developed during his doctoral research at UConn under the guidance of Professor and Associate Dean of Research George Bollas. Burrows’s startup, Andros Innovations, is focused on revolutionizing ammonia production with a new reactor that reduces both costs and energy consumption.

College of Engineering Offers New Ph.D. Program in Engineering Education

Connie Syharat recognizes that not all students learn the same way. As one of the College of Engineering’s first graduate students to pursue a Ph.D. in engineering education, she’s hoping to bring awareness to neurodiversity in engineering and celebrate the strengths and potential of all students. “I am deeply committed to work that advances students’ right to equitable and inclusive education in engineering and other STEM fields,” After graduating, Syharat hopes to continue her research on inclusive learning environments in engineering education.
