General Structure of the Competition
The competition consists of two rounds.
- First Round:
- Students compete within their departments.
- Judged by a faculty member from another department.
- Second Round:
- Winners from each department compete against each other for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
- Judged by industry professionals.
Rules for the Competition
- Each participant gets 3 minutes to present their research poster.
- Judges will ask 2 minutes of follow-up questions.
- Judging criteria:
- Visual presentation of the poster.
- Effective communication of research.
- Judges in the first round are from outside your department.
- Poster specifications:
- 24" width x 36" height
- Saved and submitted as a PDF
- Note: If you fail to create poster in specified dimensions you will lose points.
Why You Should Compete
- Great practice for creating research posters.
- Enhances communication skills for presenting research.
- Opportunity to network with students and faculty from other departments.
- Winners receive cash prizes:
- 1st place: $1000
- 2nd place: $500
- 3rd place: $250
- Department winners: $50
- People's Choice Award: $50
Who can compete? Open only to engineering Masters and PhD students.
Poster PRINTING Procedure:
- All posters musst be sized as follows 24 inches wide and 36 inches high - (24w x 36h).
- Create your poster choosing your departments templates. (Note: If you fail to create poster in specified dimensions you will lose points.)
- Save your poster as a PDF.
- When naming your poster file please include your department and your name. example: CBEAidaGhiaei.pdf
- Follow instructions found on the ETS website.
