Request Your Letters of Recommendation & Your Transcripts
Once you have decided you to begin your journey, now it is time to do the crucial steps. You begin with requesting from your institution your official transcripts from where you obtained your undergraduate or post-graduate degree. Second, you seek out letters of recommendation from colleagues that you know. These colleagues ideally will have worked, studied or collaborated with you.
In your letters of recommendation, did your colleague remember to include:
- your personal characteristics,
- performance and experience, strengths, capabilities,
- professional promise about you
- personal story with evidence of their qualities (soft and hard skills)
- closing statement with contact information.
- their signature
- your skills
- Discuss your relationships in the community
Write Your Personal Statement & Update Your Resumé/CV
The next journey in the application process is to write your personal statement. This statement in a nutshell states why you wish to further your academic journey. In this statement, you want to highlight your accomplishments, what makes you unique from other applicants or what sets your aside from others. This is your opportunity to share why this journey you aspire to embark on is important to you and what contributions you wish to give in return.
Lastly, you will want to update your resume or CV. Make sure that you have put in all the latest relevant information regarding your academic accomplishments, work history and any relevant pertinent information that will help market yourself in the best way possible to distinguish yourself from other candidates.
In your personal statement did you:
- discuss your expertise and accomplishments
- specific learning experiences that helped motivate you or inspire you to continue your academic aspirations
- what are your goals once you're in graduate school
- describe your background and what makes you unique
In your resumé/CV did you include:
